In Val Senale you can experience the thrill of high altitude holidays in the world of\u00a0\u00a0\u00d6tzi<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0where you can ski even in summer.\u00a0The highest cable car in South Tyrol leads comfortably in just 6 minutes at an altitude of 3200 meters.<\/p>\n

An old tradition of Val Senales is the spectacular\u00a0\u00a0sheep transhumance<\/b>\u00a0.\u00a0Around mid-June, up to 3,500 sheep pass through the Val Venosta through the\u00a0\u00a0Giogo Alto<\/b>\u00a0\u00a0(2857 m) and\u00a0\u00a0Giogo Basso<\/b>\u00a0(3019 m) in the Vent Valley, in Austria.\u00a0Herdsmen, shepherds and dogs follow the flock and in two days they travel more than 44 km, overcoming steep rocky paths, snowfields, moraines and even glaciers.\u00a0In mid-September the flocks come back through the same path, a big party accompanies the event.<\/p>\n

Where to sleep<\/h2>\n

You can try the emotion (and the frost) of sleeping inside an\u00a0igloo<\/strong>\u00a0!\u00a0At the\u00a0Bellavista<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0refuge\u00a0.\u00a0Another name could not be given to this shelter.\u00a0Surrounded by the high peaks of the Val Senales, it is a special place that offers a\u00a0view<\/strong>\u00a0of enchantment from every window, even from the bathrooms and showers.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0\u00a0Lake Vernago<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0is an artificial lake which was built in the fertile valley.\u00a0The position is sunny.\u00a0A path invites you to hike around the lake passing over two suspension bridges.\u00a0An excursion lasting approx.\u00a02 hours, ideal for families.\u00a0Along another path you can go around the farms above the lake and find some beautiful\u00a0alpacas<\/strong>\u00a0.<\/p>\n

Where to eat<\/h2>\n

The modern restaurant on the glacier ”\u00a0Grawand<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0” (3251 m) with its self-service and panoramic terrace with views of 300 peaks above three thousand meters, the “Bella Vista” hut (2842 m) and the “Lazaun” hut ( 2430 m).\u00a0You can also\u00a0sleep<\/a>\u00a0on the highest panoramic terrace there is!<\/p>\n

The Val Senales glacier, also called\u00a0\u00a0Giogo Alto,<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0is located between the Val Senales in South Tyrol and the Austrian Vent valley in the \u00d6tztal Alps.\u00a0It covers\u00a0\u00a0185 hectares<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0and is\u00a0three kilometers<\/strong>\u00a0long\u00a0\u00a0.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0About one sixth of its surface is used for the ski area.\u00a0Scientists also observe a continuous reduction in the mass of ice at Giogo Alto.\u00a0The surface retreat is however a little less evident than for other glaciers in the central Alps.<\/p>\n
